The New York Giants named Russell Wilson as the team’s starting quarterback for the 2025 season earlier this offseason, despite drafting Jaxson Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft. Jaxson Dart has been impressive in New York’s three preseason games, but the Giants are sticking with Wilson to lead the team’s offense.
After the Giants’ final preseason game, Dart gave his honest assessment of the situation.
“I feel like whenever my number is called, I’m gonna go out there, I’m gonna play my game and I’m gonna ball,” the young quarterback said.
“That’s just my mindset any time I touch the field. Obviously, Russ is the starter, and he’s going to do amazing. He’s had such a great camp and has played at an elite level. My job is just to be the best teammate and be ready whenever it is. I’m excited for Russ and what he’s going to do this year.”
However, Dart made it clear to everyone, including Wilson, that he thinks he’s the best player on the field at all times.
“When I step on the field, I expect to play at a high level,” Dart said. “I have the confidence that I’m going to be the best player on the field every time.”
Fans reacted to the bold statement on social media.
“He’ll take over midway through the season I’m sure,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“I’m beginning to believe in ol Jizzy Dart fellas,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting if Dart’s game can back up his words if his number gets called in the regular season.
