Jameis Winston is the starting quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, but he hasn’t really stayed healthy over the past few years. Last year, when things seemed to be back on track, Winston tore his ACL. And after signing a two-year extension this offseason, Winston suffered a foot injury during training camp.
Winston updated the media on his condition and it should be very encouraging for Saints fans.
“I feel a lot better,” Winston said. “I’ve been getting better every single day. I feel good to really, yesterday, I can run a little bit more and move around a little bit more. Because that’s part of my game so I’m getting better every day.
While it seems like a serious injury, Winston revealed that his foot injury was “not a major injury” but the team is playing it safe to avoid another part of his lower body taking on more stress and potentially injure that part as he’s getting back to 100% from his other injuries.
Winston said that he’s working on sliding and avoiding hits but had to run and test things out in practice because running is going to remain a part of his game.
There was some optimism from Winston that he could play this Friday against the Los Angeles Chargers but if he’s held out he’ll “definitely be ready to go” for Week 1 of the regular season against the Atlanta Falcons.
