Jake Fromm’s first NFL start with the New York Giants didn’t go all that well this weekend. Not only did the Giants lose 34-10 to the rival Philadelphia Eagles, but the Georgia product was a mere 6-of-17 for 25 yards and an interception before getting pulled in the third quarter for Mike Glennon.
So bad was New York’s offensive effort that it wasn’t until almost midway through the fourth quarter that they topped 100 yards of total offense on the day. The loss dropped New York to 4-11 on the season, which will be their fifth-consecutive losing effort.
For his part, Fromm didn’t shy away from just how bad things went, going as far as to tell reporters that “I don’t think it gets much worse than that.”
“I would say it’s not ideal,” Fromm said. “I wish I would have played better. It’s frustrating for myself. It’s not the way I wanted to have represented myself, my family, or, of course, this organization. It’s tough, but I’m going to learn from it. I don’t think it gets much worse than that. … I’m going to grind. I’m going to work my tail off to get better and play better like I know I can. I’m going to give everything I can to the guys on offense, to this team, and be the best me I can be from here on out.”
It was a very tough position for Fromm to be in, having just come over from the Buffalo Bills practice squad to help the Giants with quarterback depth following Daniel Jones’ injury. The outcome also means the Giants have a tough decision to make before they play at the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Head coach Joe Judge said that he would look at both Fromm and Glennon in practice this week and then make a decision.
Given how things have gone for the Giants this season, it might not make a difference.
