Good news for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Head coach Doug Pederson announced Monday that running back James Robinson will be available for Week 1 against the Washington Commanders.
Robinson was out for nine months due to an Achilles injury. Just a few weeks ago, Pederson didn’t know how much Robinson would play, saying he would gradually increase his carries. But now the team knows for show the running back will play in the opener.
Before he was injured at the end of last season, Robinson had rushed for 747 yards and eight touchdowns. He also averaged almost five yards a carry.
The Jaguars could use Robinson’s help on offense, not only in the run game but in the passing game as well. In the last two seasons, Robinson has rushed for almost 1,800 yards and caught 80 passes for 566 yards.
An undrafted free agent out of Illinois State, he was only the fourth undrafted player in NFL history to rush for over a thousand yards in his rookie season. So you can understand why the Jags are excited to have him back.
The Jags’ offense struggled big-time last year under head coach Urban Meyer, who brought plenty of baggage of his own to the team. It seems that Pederson has now brought a new attitude to this team that is much needed and getting Robinson back on the field will help even more.
