While the NFL is putting a lot of effort into cutting down on taunting, it’s players punching one another that they might want to keep their focus on.
The San Francisco 49ers led the Jacksonville Jaguars 10-0 early in the second quarter on Sunday when Jaguars’ defensive end Rayshawn Jenkins got heated with San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings. During the fracas, Jennings’ helmet came off. Jenkins then gave his exposed head an open-handed slap as other players and officials tried to break things up.
The damage was done and Jenkins got ejected from the game.
Along with the ejection, Jenkins earned his team a penalty that gave San Francisco a first-down, undoing a third-down stop Jacksonville that had just made. Given all of that, you better believe Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan was happy with the way Jennings handled himself.
Jenkins, in his first season with the Jaguars, has 54 tackles on the season, and is on pace to match his career-high of 84, unless he finds himself in the doghouse following this game.
The Niners have since gone up 27-3 on the Jaguars and, combine that with the ejection and the way it all went down, and we’re gonna guess Urban Meyer will not look very pleased during the post-game presser. But what else is new?
