Buffalo Bills wide receiver and kick returner Isaiah McKenzie was a highly sought-after recruit when he was deciding where to play college football. A four-star talent back in 2013, McKenzie received over 25 offers, including some of the top programs in the nation, such as Oregon, Florida, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
McKenzie initially committed to play for Notre Dame during his senior year and decided to take a visit during the summer. That’s when, according to the first episode of The Isaiah McKenzie Show, he was told some very troubling news about what would happen if he attended the school.
“I got to campus…and the coach goes, yeah, we have one rule, and I didn’t know if he was kidding or not,” said McKenzie. “For you to be able to come here, there’s no sexual intercourse throughout the whole school.”
“On Monday, I de-committed.”
McKenzie explains after the clip ends that after he de-committed, he then received an offer from Georgia just before signing day. Despite not taking any visits, he committed (presumably assuming that sexual intercourse was okay on campus). He would go on to play for the Bulldogs for three seasons before being selected by the Denver Broncos in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
McKenzie mentions in the podcast that there’s more to the story and that’s true. In reality, McKenzie’s ability to play for Notre Dame was also affected by his lack of a test score on a college admissions exam. He committed to play for them in October but then de-committed, presumably around the time of the story. However, during Senior Night at his high school, he did announce that he had committed to Notre Dame but the school could not accept his commitment due to academic issues.
Things worked out just fine for McKenzie, regardless of how it all went down. You can watch/listen to the full episode here.
