At one point, the Indianapolis Colts were the feel-good story of the NFL. The Colts had the NFL’s best offense behind a resurgent year from veteran quarterback Daniel Jones, held the number one overall seed in the AFC Playoff picture, and traded for one of the league’s best defenders in cornerback Sauce Gardner.
Unfortunately for the Colts, things have gone awry as of late. The Colts have ceded control of the AFC South to the Jacksonville Jaguars, as Indy has lost four of its last five games. The Colts’ problems were exacerbated on Sunday, when Jones went down with an Achilles tear that will keep him out for the remainder of the season.
The Colts are so desperate to save their season that on Tuesday, they signed 44-year-old quarterback Phillip Rivers out of retirement to the practice squad on Tuesday, according to one prominent league insider.
“ESPN Sources: 44-year-old Philip Rivers, who has not played in the NFL since the 2020 COVID season, is signing to the QB-needy Indianapolis Colts practice squad,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.
However, Rivers isn’t the only quarterback looking at a potential return from retirement to aid the Colts, according to one prominent NFL-centric Twitter account.
Fans reacted to the news of a potential Kaepernick return on social media.
“Lmfao we see this rumor at least twice a year. Lmfao they don’t care about you bro,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Colin Kaepernick should take a knee on this one. Be very careful doing this on those old knees,” someone else wrote on Twitter.
“At this point why not?” another fan wondered.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Colts give Kaepernick a look.
