The Indianapolis Colts’ offseason is revolving around the quarterback battle between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones, both of whom may be competing for their last opportunity to be starters in the NFL.
The Colts drafted Richardson in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft, but it appears that general manager Chris Ballard still doesn’t believe the young quarterback is at the level he needs to be at, though he still holds hope that Richardson can reach that level eventually
“I just think eventually Anthony’s going to be who we think he can be,” Ballard said, according to Zak Keefer of The Athletic. “I still believe that. Whether that’s this year or next, I don’t know when it’s going to happen.”
Fans reacted to Ballard’s statement on social media.
“A bust? Dude wasn’t even that good at Florida. He is a freak athlete but can’t translate that to the field consistently,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“As long as he doesn’t pull himself out of a game again,” someone else added, referencing when Richardson headed to the sideline in the middle of an offensive possession last season to catch his breath.
“His career is over,” another fan bluntly predicted.
If Richardson doesn’t win the starting job this offseason, it’ll be interesting to see if the Colts decide to move on from him completely.
