In his prime, it was impossible to imagine Mike Tyson being knocked out by anyone. Also, in his prime, it felt impossible to imagine Herschel Walker couldn’t run all over any defense he wanted. If the two had ever met in a boxing ring, most people would assume that Tyson would win simply because that was his domain. However, according to an NFL legend, Walker was convinced that he could have beaten Iron Mike.
Former Dallas Cowboys star Michael Irvin spoke with Fox News on Friday and discussed friend Walker’s chances of winning the U.S. Senate race in Georgia.
“I never doubted Herschel in anything that he has done,” Irvin told Fox News Digital.
The two were briefly Cowboys teammates before Walker was dealt in an infamous trade to the Minnesota Vikings. However, before he left, Walker shared an anecdote with Irvin about how he felt as though he could take down Tyson, who at the time was the undefeated heavyweight champion of the world.
“One of the first things Herschel said to me was, ‘Mike, you know, I really think I could beat Mike Tyson,'” Irvin said. “This was when Mike Tyson was hitting you in the head, and your whole body just exploded. I said, ‘Dude, why you talking like this? What is this? Some death wish? What are you talking about?’ But he was dead serious.
“He looked at me and was like, ‘I’m telling you, Mike, I can beat him.’ He believes he can do [anything] and beat everybody at everything. He’s that kind of a competitor. He was that kind of athlete.”
Walker is currently neck-and-neck with Senator Raphael Warnock in the hotly contested Senate race, in spite of the many controversies, scandals, and proven lies that have rocked his campaign.
