Henry Winkler shares ‘adorable’ story about meeting Patrick Mahomes

While a lot of people are focused on the series finale of Succession, HBO’s Barry also ends its four-season run this Sunday. Henry Winkler, who plays acting teacher Gene Cousineau on the dark comedy about a hitman-turned-actor, stopped by The Rich Eisen Show this week and shared a story about an “adorable” meeting with Patrick Mahomes.

Winkler, who has been a big self-described Mahomes fan for some time, showed up for his interview wearing a Kansas City Chiefs jersey signed by the two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback.

The Happy Days actor, who has become something of an ambassador for the NFL franchise, showed off the autograph on the back of the jersey and then started telling the story of how it happened.

“It was the most adorable thing, if I may use that word,” said Winkler. “This behemoth comes running across the field after the team meeting…and he’s smiling from ear-to-ear, and he says to me, ‘I have a surprise for you.’ I’m so excited. He gives me his jersey. I am speechless.”

Eisen said that people will usually hang those kinds of memorabilia items on their wall, to which Winkler said he eventually will. He also shared that he has some other Mahomes items.

“I did wear it during the Super Bowl in my house,” said Winkler. “I also have a Funko doll of his.”

Winklers’ only critique of the Kansas City quarterback is the curious outfit that he wore to an event.

The only thing that I would say to him is what were the shorts he wore to the Met Ball? I say that as a friend. If I was there, when he was getting dressed, I would have had a chat with him.

“All of a sudden he looked like he was going to the beach, at the Met Ball.”
