The Green Bay Packers are entering one of the most precarious offseasons they’ve had in a long time.
Aaron Rodgers is deciding whether or not to remain with the franchise or move on to another NFL team. Offensive coordinator Nathanial Hackett has left to take the head coaching job with the Denver Broncos. Now, Quarterbacks coach Luke Getsy is heading to the Chicago Bears to become their new offensive coordinator.
The Packers needed to be strategic about who becomes their new offensive coordinator as they’ll need it to be someone that Rodgers would consider playing for and be comfortable with calling plays. That is perhaps why they decided to keep things in-house and elevate offensive line coach and run game coordinator Adam Stenavich to offensive coordinator.
Stenavich spent the last three years with the Packers following two years with the San Francisco 49ers as their assistant offensive line coach. So he’s got lots of experience with Green Bay, but specifically with Rodgers and the offense. If it’s about ensuring that the quarterback feels comfortable with the coach, they probably did the best they could.
The reaction from around the league and from Packers fans appears to be fairly positive.
Even if Rodgers does decide to leave the organization, it sounds as though it will be business as usual for their offensive coaching gameplan. Of course, replacing Aaron Rodgers is a whole other story altogether.
