There has been some controversy around New York Giants training camp as of late after head coach Brian Daboll announced that he would give backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor more first-team reps during practice.
While Daboll insisted that Daniel Jones does not need to worry about his starting job, it is an enticing storyline to have Taylor as the backup considering his experience as an NFL quarterback.
Running back Saquon Barkley also seems to be a fan. Or at least, he appreciates one thing about Tyrod that he picked up on during Taylor’s brief time with the organization.
“One thing I learned about Tyrod, and this might sound so weird, but he smells good man. I tell him all the time that he is the smoothest man in football, No matter what, before practice, after practice, before a workout, after a workout. He won’t tell me his secret,” said Barkley on Thursday via SNY.
It’s certainly not the compliment that most of the media members at the press conference were expecting initially, but Barkley went on to talk about how Tyrod has impacted the team on the football field.
“He’s a competitor, he’s a veteran, he’s a great quarterback,” said Barkley. “I feel like he is someone who DJ (Daniel Jones) can lean onto. He has just been a great teammate ever since he has been here.”
It’s definitely a peculiar way to start the question about Taylor, but Barkley seems to enjoy his presence in the locker room. At this point, it seems unlikely that Taylor will take Daniel Jones’s starting job, barring an unforeseen injury, but at least he can be a great teammate by providing delightful fragrances in the locker room.
