The New York Giants are entering their first full season of the post-Daniel Jones experience. The Giants and head coach Brian Daboll made it clear that veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, who is gearing up for his first season with the Giants, will be the starting quarterback to open the season.
However, the Giants selected rookie Jaxson Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft. Earlier in this offseason, fans were disappointed when the franchise listed veteran Jameis Winston as the second-string quarterback, despite Dart’s impressive showings in the preseason.
For Dart’s part, he made it clear that he was willing to wait for his number to be called.
“I feel like whenever my number is called, I’m gonna go out there, I’m gonna play my game and I’m gonna ball,” he said.
“That’s just my mindset any time I touch the field. Obviously, Russ is the starter, and he’s going to do amazing. He’s had such a great camp and has played at an elite level. My job is just to be the best teammate and be ready whenever it is. I’m excited for Russ and what he’s going to do this year.”
“Russ has completely earned that role,” Dart continued. “I just want to be the best teammate, and I want this team to win, so whatever my role is for that to happen, I’m going to do that to the best of my ability.”
However, Dart is already making his way up the depth chart.
“Jaxson Dart listed as QB2 on Giants depth chart for Week 1. Jameis Winston listed as QB3,” Underdog NFL reported on Tuesday.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Please just send Jameis to the Saints already,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Interesting shake-up in New York—Dart getting the QB2 nod shows the Giants are serious about seeing what he can do early,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Dart can claim the starting job.
