The New York Giants got a much-needed injection of energy when Jaxson Dart was inserted as the starting quarterback. The Giants went on to upset the Los Angeles Chargers in Dart’s first start, and a couple of weeks later took down the Philadelphia Eagles on national television.
Dart was aided by his mate in the backfield, fellow rookie running back Cam Skattebo. Unfortunately, Dart lost his close friend and teammate when Skattebro suffered a gruesome injury in a rematch against the Eagles.
Now, the Giants and Dart are learning that Skattebo’s injury was even worse than initially reported.
“Giants RB Cam Skattebo, who was placed on IR yesterday, suffered not only a dislocated ankle, but also a fibula fracture and deltoid ligament rupture, sources say. Surgery was right away to close the wound, and it was a success. NYG expects him back for the offseason program,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Tough break for Skattebo, that combo injury is brutal but surgery success is a good sign. Giants will need depth fast. Random fact, the average NFL player endures a career lasting just about 3.3 years, mostly due to injury risk,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“This dude never playing football again. That sounds too serious,” one fan added.
“The giants can’t have nice things,” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Skattebo is the same player when he returns.
