On Thursday, five players who were suspended for the entirety of the 2023-24 season after being found guilty of involvement in gambling investigations were reinstated by the league.
Wide receiver Quintez Cephus, safety Chris Moore, defensive lineman Demetrius Taylor, linebacker Rashod Taylor, and defensive end Shaka Toney all found themselves issued a year-long suspension last year.
And now, the league has issued all of them reinstatement, allowing them to rebuild their respective NFL careers.
Of the five players, all by Shaka Toney were released by their respective teams after they were issued the suspension. This means that each will need to get the interest of NFL teams once again if they want to find themselves back on NFL rosters.
In recent months, both the NBA with former Toronto Raptors center Jontay Porter and the MLB with Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani have had their own respective issues with gambling within the sport.
Porter’s incident ended up being much more severe of course, as he was issued a permanent suspension for life from the NBA earlier this week.
Since the suspension of these five players, we have not had any other instances of gambling in the NFL. Hopefully players have learned from their mistakes and avoid finding themselves in the spotlight of an investigation like they once were.
