The Atlanta Falcons are still trying to hit their stride on the season and consistently look like one of the best teams in the league week in and week out. Unfortunately for Atlanta, Sunday night’s game against the San Francisco 49ers was a down week for the team and young quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

Penix Jr. has received the support of head coach Raheem Morris after some of his poorer performances this season, but an injury to Penix Jr. may force Morris’s hand in turning to veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins, according to one prominent league insider.

“Falcons HC Raheem Morris told reporters that Michael Penix has a bone bruise in his foot that now will leave him day to day,” ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on Monday.

Fans reacted to the brutal development on social media.

“Should’ve been taken out, he was obviously hurt. Kirk would’ve given them a chance to get back in the game,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Not long enough to miss 3 weeks. Which is fine because I’d rather play Penix than Cousins in Germany,” one Indianapolis Colts fan added.

“It would be soooo funny if he was out vs Miami n Kirk steps in n completely revamps the offense,” another fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see how Cousins looks if he ends up getting the next start.
