It’s not often that an offensive coordinator wins a Super Bowl with one of the top quarterbacks in the entire NFL and then chooses to leave that team to become the offensive coordinator for a team that didn’t even make the playoffs, but it appears that’s exactly what Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is planning to do.
According to league insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Eric Bieniemy and the Washington Commanders have “mutual interest” and a potential deal to make him their next offensive coordinator is “trending in the right direction.”
“Sources: The #Commanders and #Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy have mutual interest and it’s trending in the right direction toward him being their new coordinator. Both sides are working through specifics, but Bieniemy is the top choice. If all goes well, this should be official today,” Rapoport said in a tweet. Eric Bieniemy is back in the building today, his second day in a row as Ron Rivera’s #Commanders and Bieniemy work through specifics. But this likely ends with Bieniemy as the new coordinator.
It’s somewhat surprising news, considering he’s been the offensive coordinator in Kansas City for five years and helped guide the team to two Super Bowl victories. As a result, the NFL world had plenty to say about it on Twitter.
It is wild that the coordinator of the best offense in the league for 5 years has to go take a worse OC job to better his head-coaching candidacy. Makes no sense. https://t.co/UFxhvsLDvh

This would obviously be a huge move for the Commanders if it happens.
