During Sunday afternoon’s game between the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills, Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered an apparent head injury and was tested for a concussion. While he ultimately passed the concussion test, former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho shared a terrifying story that indicates that those concussion tests aren’t always trustworthy.
According to Acho, who played in the NFL from 2012 to 2015, he once passed a concussion test during a game and was cleared to return. But he later learned that he was far from fine.
“Regarding Tua: for those saying, ‘well he passed the concussion test.’ I passed a concussion test once, finished playing in the game, flew home, drove to my neighborhood and had no idea which house was mine. Test or not, the man couldn’t walk straight. Play it safe!” Acho said in a Tweet.
Acho’s story is the latest concussion confession from a former NFL player. Last month, former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre revealed that he suffered “thousands” of concussions throughout his lengthy NFL playing career.
While there’s no telling for sure whether or not Tagovailoa did suffer a concussion on Sunday afternoon, it is clear that the tests administered on the field aren’t always the most reliable.
