While Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh is getting most of the headlines regarding the Denver Broncos head coaching vacancy as he is set to officially interview for the job this week, it looks like another candidate has emerged who could be competition for Harbaugh.

According to a report from Mike Klis of 9News, the Broncos are set to interview defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero this week for the team’s open head coaching vacancy. He’ll get the first interview and unlike Harbaugh’s interview, his interview will be in-person – which makes sense, given that he’s already with the team.

“The Broncos’ first in-person head coach interview will be this week with their own defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, a source told 9NEWS. Other head coach interviews by the Broncos will be held virtually this week, including one with Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, a source confirmed,” Klis wrote on 9News.

While the Broncos’ offense struggled mightily this season, finishing the year as the worst scoring offense in the entire NFL, the team’s defense was actually quite strong. Denver finished the season ranked No. 11 in scoring defense, allowing just 20.7 points per game. Of the 10 teams ahead of them, eight of them are playoff teams.

Evero obviously had a big role in shaping that defense, and that’s likely why he earned an interview for the open head coaching position.
