The Philadelphia Eagles are the reigning Super Bowl champions after their dismantling of the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. However, the Eagles’ offense has not looked like the same unit that paved through the rest of the NFC a season ago.
Philadelphia has still got off to a 3-0 start on the season, thanks to the stellar play of its defense week after week. Unfortunately, things may get a little rocky for the Eagles moving forward, as they’re set to be without one of the most important members of their defense for four weeks at the very least, according to one prominent league insdier.
“The #Eagles have placed OLB Nolan Smith on Injured Reserve, as he tweaked the same triceps he had had surgery on. He should be back soon. In addition, WR Darius Cooper and CB Jakorian Bennett went to IR, while S Marcus Epps, TE Cam Latu, and CB Parry Nickerson were signed to the 53-man roster,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Twitter on Wednesday.
Fans reacted to the devastating news for Philadelphia on social media.
“Man I hate to hear that. It’s like nonstop injuries right now,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Eagles IR carousel keeps spinning… at this point, even the roster needs a roster,” someone else added.
“Ouch, the injury bug is hitting hard. Hopefully Smith bounces back quickly—depth is about to be tested big time,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Eagles manage without Smith.
