The Philadelphia Eagles have reportedly hired the man who will replace Brian Johnson as offensive coordinator. And he’s someone the NFC East’s teams and fans are familiar with.
Before serving as the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023, Kellen Moore held the same job with the Dallas Cowboys from 2018-2022. On Saturday, it was reported that the Eagles are bringing Moore back to the NFC East as their offensive coordinator.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news.
Between Moore and new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, the Eagles are certainly looking for more experience in the coordinator roles.
The news of Moore’s hire was generally met with positivity.
While Moore enjoyed some success as a coordinator in Dallas, there’s also valid reason for skepticism. Most notably, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott enjoyed the best season of his career in 2023, following Moore’s departure.
Moore will inherit one of the NFL’s most talented offenses. He’ll also inherit an offense that was one of the NFL’s most disappointing in 2023. The play of quarterback Jalen Hurts best illustrates the differences between the two seasons.
In 2022, Hurts completed 66.5% of his passes for 3,701 yards with 22 touchdowns. In some respects, his numbers in 2023 were comparable, if not even better. Hurts completed 65.4% of his passes for 3,858 yards with 23 touchdowns in 2023. But his interceptions were also way up in 2023, as he threw 15 picks compared to just six the year before.
To bring the Eagles back to where they were in 2022, Moore must find a way to get Hurts back to his 2022 form.
