The Philadelphia Eagles aren’t just looking in the pro game to conduct interviews for their open defensive coordinator position.
Philadelphia will reportedly extend its reach to the college ranks. The team is teed up to interview Georgia Bulldogs co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann. Dan Mathews of 680 The Fan reported the news Wednesday.
“Source: Georgia Co-DC/ILB Coach Glenn Schumann to talk today with the Eagles about their vacant DC position.”
Schumann attended The University of Alabama but did not play before Nick Saban hired him a student assistant. Schumann rose up the ranks and then Kirby Smart hired him in 2016. That year, Smart jumped from Alabama to Georgia and he took Schumann along with him.
He has served as co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach since 2019. His work obviously speaks for itself. The Georgia defense has been one of the most ferocious and tenacious in college football these last few seasons. Their defense is a huge reason why they’ve won back-to-back College Football Playoff Championships.
Sure enough, there are people Schumann is familiar with on staff. Former Bulldogs linebacker Nakobe Dean is part of the Eagles.
The Eagles lost defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon to the Arizona Cardinals, as they hired him to be their next head coach. Philly appears to be searching far and wide for the next candidate and won’t let any stone go unturned.
