Officiating came under heavy scrutiny during and after Sunday’s game between the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles.
One of the controversies came in overtime, when replays showed Eagles corner Darius Slay making a lot of contact with Bills receiver Stefon Diggs on a pass. The pass fell incomplete and Slay was not penalized for holding or pass interference. And on Monday, Diggs offered a refreshingly honest take.
Seeing a replay on Twitter/X, Slay said, “Refs miss calls all the time.. nobody perfect. But holding an grabbing goes on every play. If they would’ve called it I wouldn’t be mad at all!”
Football fans seemed to appreciate Slay’s honesty on the matter.
It’s worth noting that this particular no-call was rendered largely moot. Buffalo picked up the first down on the following play on a 13-yard run from quarterback Josh Allen. So, even if it was a blatant no-call, its actual impact on the game was negligible.
The Bills kept that drive going for a while before ultimately settling for a 40-yard field goal. Philadelphia answered with a nine-play, 75-yard drive that resulted in a 12-yard touchdown run from Jalen Hurts, ending the game.
