The Philadelphia Eagles are the reigning Super Bowl champions heading into the 2025 season following their 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in February. One of the biggest reasons for the Eagles’ success in recent seasons has been the controversial tush push, where quarterback Jalen Hurts is shown behind for extra momentum on his quarterback sneaks.
There has been increasing chatter around the league about the play being outlawed by the league moving forward, and even rumors that league commissioner Roger Goodell wants the play banned.
Luckily for the Eagles, the move has yet to be officially outlawed, and now it’s gotten the support of the highest office in the United States.
“The Eagles scored a touchdown on their signature play, the tush push,” United States President Donald Trump said when the Eagles visited the White House to commemorate their Super Bowl victory, per Pro Football Talk.
“You know what that is? . . . I hope they keep that play, Coach [Nick Sirianni]. I don’t know. . . . They’re talking about getting rid of that play. I understand. They should keep it. What do you think, Saquon [Barkley]? I like it. We have guys like this, pushing you around a little bit? I like it. It’s sort of exciting and different.”
Trump also talked about another potential rule change.
“I’d like to go back to the regular kickoff, however,” he said. “We don’t like that kickoff where nobody’s moving the balls in the air, nobody’s moving, but I won’t ask the Coach or Lane [Johnson] or any of the people about that, but as a fan, I don’t know, I’m not sure.”
While Goodell likely won’t care much what Trump has to say about rule changes, it certainly won’t hurt the Eagles to have the backing of the President.
