As Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams prepare for an NFC Championship game showdown against the Seattle Seahawks, a viral post is claiming that Matthew Stafford is a Donald Trump supporter. However, many fans have chimed in to dispute this claim.
In a post on social media, right-wing author Nick Adams claimed that the four quarterbacks who advanced to the conference championship round of the NFL playoffs – Matthew Stafford, Bo Nix, Sam Darnold, and Drake Maye – are all “Pro-Trump” in terms of their political affiliation.
Meanwhile, Adams claimed that Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, who threw a game-clinching interception in a loss last weekend, was “Pro-Kamala.”
“Matthew Stafford: Pro-Trump. Sam Darnold: Pro-Trump. Drake Maye: Pro-Trump. Bo Nix: Pro-Trump. Caleb Williams: Pro-Kamala. This is not a coincidence,” Adams wrote in his post.
The post went absolutely viral on social media, generating more than 2.8 million impressions, over 30,000 “likes,” and thousands more reposts and replies. However, many fans were quick to push back on Adam’s claim that Stafford was a Trump supporter.
While Stafford has not explicitly spoken out for or against Trump, he has previously spoken out against police brutality, white privilege, and racism in an article titled “We Can’t Just Stick to Football.”
“Deep down inside, no matter what political party we support, or what we do for a living, we know what’s real. Police brutality, white privilege, racism — it’s all real,” Stafford wrote in an article for The Players’ Tribune back in 2020.
Stafford has also been seen kneeling during the national anthem before games in the past, in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
People were quick to point this out when Adams claimed that Stafford was a Trump supporter.
“Stafford is definitely not Pro-Trump,” one person wrote in a post on X.
“Yeah, the guy who spoke out against white privilege is definitely Pro-Trump,” someone else added.
“Is Matthew Stafford the man who, along with his wife, Kelly, donated $350,000 to the University of Georgia to fund a social justice program for student-athletes focused on diversity, inclusion, and equity?” another person added.
“I’m sorry, did you just try to say MATTHEW STAFFORD is Pro-Trump?” someone else wrote.
Needless to say, it seems like a stretch to claim that Stafford is Pro-Trump when there is simply no evidence of that.
