The Miami Dolphins took a blow Thursday when the team placed running back Jeff Wilson on IR with an undisclosed injury.
The move means the veteran will miss at least the first four games of the season. The club also placed cornerback Jalen Ramsey and offensive lineman Robert Jones on the IR.
Wilson’s injury definitely changes the role of running backs Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane. The explosive Mostert figures to get the most extra touches in the early going with Wilson sidelined. The 31-year-old veteran has an eye-popping 5.4 yards per carry career average but has been plagued by injuries.
Achane, a third-round pick this year out of Texas A&M, will also see some extra playing time, but his situation is complicated by an injury. The rookie left the team’s Aug. 19 game with a shoulder injury. However, he was at practice Wednesday wearing a non-contact jersey, according to the Indianapolis Star.
While the Dolphins sort out their RB room entering the season, fantasy players are also changing their strategies. All three Miami running backs have been mentioned as sleeper picks this year.
