The Dallas Cowboys held their annual home-run derby to benefit the Salvation Army on Monday, and it looks like it was a lot of fun. Ezekiel Elliot, Dak Prescott, Jason Witten and Jason Garrett were all there, as were other Cowboys players and coaches.
Wide receiver Dez Bryant also showed up, but he was too tardy to participate. His explanation? He showed up to the wrong park.
The event was held at Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, Texas (home of the Frisco RoughRiders). Bryant went to Globe Life Park in Arlington (home of the Texas Rangers). The two stadiums are both in the Greater Dallas area but stand 38 miles apart.
Garrett, the Cowboys coach, was apparently not all that surprised about his star receiver’s screw-up.
Bryant seems to have missed out on a good time.
Ezekiel Elliot showed definitively that he’s better at football than baseball, but he did launch a homer in his final swing, then announce he’s a “clutch performer.”
Garrett won the derby (at age 51!), raising $4,900 for the Salvation Army, while Witten finished just behind him at $4,800.
Also, whatever the hell this is happened.
Maybe next year the Cowboys will upgrade to the Rangers’ stadium and Dez can partake in the fun.
