One would think that an NFL player would want to be well-rested before practice or an NFL game. But apparently, that is not the case for Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver DeVonta Smith.
During a recent appearance on The Pivot podcat, the former Heisman Trophy winner claimed that he actually plays better when he is somewhat sleep-deprived than when he gets a full eight hours of sleep.
“I don’t need a lot of sleep,” Smith said on the podcast, according to Eagles Nation. “I get four hours of sleep, I’m good. All in need is four hours. If I get a full eight hours, I ain’t gonna be worth nothing the next day.”
This is certainly a unique habit, but it might not even be Smith’s most unique pre-game ritual.
As Eagles Nation pointed out, Smith also has some pretty interesting pre-game dining habits as he claimed last year that he eats McDonald’s breakfast before every Eagles home game.
“If it’s a home game, I’m going to McDonald’s. I’m not even gonna lie to you, I get a McGriddle, two hash browns, and an orange juice. I gotta have it,” Smith said.
So the secret to his success is apparently sleep depravation and McDonald’s.
