The Detroit Lions currently have a veteran starting quarterback in Jared Goff, but it seems like that’s not stopping the team from pursuing other veteran options at the position.
According to a report from NFL insider Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Detroit Lions are pursuing veteran quarterback Tedy Bridgewater with “a strong contract offer.”
“Free agent QB Teddy Bridgewater has interest from several teams, including a strong contract offer from the #Lions, per source. Bridgewater hasn’t decided where he’s playing as he takes his time this offseason. Bridgewater can reunite w/ Dan Campbell from their New Orleans days,” Fowler wrote in a tweet on Saturday afternoon.
Bridgewater has had a lengthy NFL career since he was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He’s started 65 games throughout his time in the league and narrowly has a winning record as a starter, going 33-32 throughout his career.
Despite his experience as a starter, Bridgewater most recently served as the backup quarterback to Tua Tagovailoa for the Miami Dolphins last season. Whether he serves as a starter or a veteran backup at his next destination, it’s clear that he’s an asset to an NFL team.
