This week, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts signed a pretty massive contract with the Philadelphia Eagles that made him the highest-paid player in NFL history overall. Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson is the only player in the league who might have an even more favorable contract, and he had a bold message for Hurts’ after his payday.
According to a report from James Palmer of the NFL Network, Deshaun Watson said that Jalen Hurts “deserves every penny.”
“#browns QB Deshaun Watson said when he congratulated Jalen Hurts on his contract, that dinner is on Hurts next time he’s in Philly. Hurts agreed. The two train together and are friends. Watson said he paid for dinner last year when the #Eagles were in Cleveland. ‘He deserves every penny,'” Palmer said in a tweet on Tuesday.
As Palmer points out, the two teams held joint practices together last year in Cleveland during training camp and played a preseason game against each other leading up to the season. That’s likely when the first dinner occurred.
Being an NFL quarterback obviously puts a player in an extremely elite group, so it makes sense that the players form a sort of camaraderie, even if they play for different teams.
