The Browns have a new head coach in former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, who replaced the ousted Kevin Stefanksi, and he is leading his first voluntary minicamp for the franchise.
Many fans came into the offseason wondering who the starting quarterback would be in Cleveland, after the Browns drafted both Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders last year, and will have Deshaun Watson back from the Achilles injury that cost him all of last season.
On Tuesday, Monken may have gave a hint as to where things currently stand on the depth chart.
“So far, Deshaun Watson has gone first in most of the early drills. Arm and agility look good,” reported Mary Kay Cabot.
Watson finished the day protecting the ball a lot better than the youngers quarterbacks as well.
Fans reacted on social media to Watson potentially having the inside track to the starting job.
“Deshaun , will pass the eye test look good and drills and pre season, you won’t be able evaluate him until the season start …. All that type of stuff is fluff and easy for him,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“His arm and agility were never the problem. Playing quarterback was the problem,” another fan added.
“I stuck around when we had no team, I stuck through all the losing, I have a Spergon Wynn jersey, it’s next to my Lawrence Vickers jersey. But I can’t do this. I have two daughters and some things are bigger than football. He’s also 1billion% not the guy so why do this to us?!?” one fan wrote exasperatedly.
It’ll be interesting to see if Watson can reclaim his All-World form from his days with the Houston Texans.
