Four-time Pro Bowl running back Derrick Henry recently made it clear that he wants to play for a contender next season. And perhaps unsurprisingly, he seemingly doesn’t believe that the Tennessee Titans will be one.
Henry has been one of the most consistently great running backs in all of football throughout his eight-year tenure in Tennessee, rushing for over 1,000 yards in four of his last five seasons.
The Titans rushing attack spearheaded by Henry has essentially been their identity for much of his time with the team. But it seems like that likely will not be the case moving forward.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Henry is “unlikely” to return to the Titans, instead seeking other opportunities in free agency this offseason.
Fowler did add that the door is not completely closed on a return to Tennessee for Henry. But given his desire to potentially play for a Super Bowl contender and where the Titans organization currently is, it doesn’t seem like the two sides are a fit for each other anymore.
This report from Fowler obviously begs the question. If Henry is indeed leaving the Titans, what team could potentially be in the sweepstakes to sign him instead?
Well, a market for Henry should emerge shortly. But on paper, there are a few teams that would seemingly be great fits for the former 2,000-yard rusher.
The Baltimore Ravens power-run game would likely be an ideal fit for a player like Henry. Or potentially the Dallas Cowboys if they let Tony Pollard walk in free agency.
Those are just a few possibilities. But chances are Henry won’t last all that long in free agency before a big-name team swoops in on him as long as it is the right price for them.
