With the Cincinnati Bengals falling to the Pittsburgh Steelers this week, the Denver Broncos had a pretty clear path to the playoffs with three games remaining against three teams with losing records, beginning with the New England Patriots on Sunday night. But unfortunately, that’s not how things went.
Even though the Broncos entered the game as a touchdown favorite over a team that was tied for the second-to-worst record in the entire NFL heading into Sunday, they were unable to pull out a victory, falling by a final score of 26-23 after a game-winning field goal from the Patriots.
The loss puts a severe dent in the team’s playoff chances after they fought back into playoff contention by winning six of seven games since Oct. 22.
It was a pretty horrible turn of events for the Broncos, and the NFL world had a lot to say about the brutal loss on social media.
The Broncos now have two games remaining against the Los Angeles Chargers and the Las Vegas Raiders. Their playoff hopes are technically still alive, but they’ll need to win both of their remaining games and hope for some teams in front of them to lose.
