It has been a crazy offseason for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who has been adamant about being traded from the organization after contract negotiations went sideways.
Samuel has appeared at the team’s minicamp, which has to be seen as a good sign for the 49ers as they attempt to mend their relationship with the star receiver.
Despite this, it appears that Samuel still has his mind made up on a potential trade.
ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported on Sunday that Samuel has still not officially rescinded his trade request, which keeps his future with the organization in doubt.
Fowler added that there is not currently a lot of chatter around the league about potential trades at the moment.
The All-Pro had an excellent year in 2021, racking in 1,770 scrimmage yards with 14 touchdowns in just his third NFL season.
His importance to the 49ers can not be understated, and the front office will need to get back into Samuel’s good graces if they want to keep him with the team long-term.
General manager John Lynch has been adamant that Samuel will not be traded, saying that he is “too good” of a player to be traded.
While that’s great to say, Samuel may just stay with the 49ers on a short-term basis, with one year left on his contract, before seeking a big deal on the open market next offseason.
