San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Deebo Samuel shocked everyone last month when it was announced that the Pro Bowl receiver had requested a trade from the organization.
Since then there have been rumors surrounding just how much it would take for the 49ers to part ways with Samuel. It certainly seems like they would love to keep dual-threat receiver/runner Samuel, as general manager John Lynch said that Samuel is “too good to trade.
Samuel is in the final year of his rookie contract and is seemingly looking to get paid comparably to the likes of the elite wide receivers that have seen massive contracts this season, such as Davante Adams or Tyreek Hill.
If the 49ers plan to keep Samuel moving forward, it is clear that they’ll have to open the checkbook and give him exactly what he is looking for prior to the 2023 NFL offseason.
They did receive what some may see as positive traction on Thursday if the team plans on bringing him back.
Samuel has followed back the San Francisco 49ers on Instagram. The receiver previously removed all things 49ers related on social media back in April and unfollowed all 49ers accounts.
This is the latest of a trend for Samuel that may be hinting that the organization could be back in his good graces.
Samuel liked a post on Tuesday on Instagram from Bleacher Report’s football account with a graphic reading “Deebo Samuel expected to remain with 49ers” which was accompanied by a report that said “49ers GM John Lynch says he believes any issues between the sides can be ironed out.”
While obviously this doesn’t exactly mean that Samuel is for sure coming back to the 49ers long-term, it at least shows that he is likely willing to make the situation work for the time being.
That may buy the 49ers time to iron out the details with him for a new contract, and if all goes well retain him on their roster for years to come.
