Former Chicago Bears running back David Montgomery spent four years there and he says it was four of the toughest years of his life.
Montgomery, who is now with the Detroit Lions, says playing in Chicago left a very bad taste in his mouth. The year the Bears went 3-14 and had the worst record in the NFL, definitely bothered him because he wanted to win.
“That’s all I was used to,” Montgomery said of the Bears’ losing. “And it got to a point where it sucked the fun out of the game for me because I’m a competitor. I like to compete. That’s what football’s about. It’s so refreshing to be in a place where that’s appreciated.”
Although the Lions didn’t make the playoffs last year, they were extremely competitive and many think they may be the team to beat in the NFC North mainly because of their explosive offense.
Down the stretch, the Lions went 8-2, knocking off Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in their final regular season game to keep them out of the playoffs as well.
Meanwhile, the Bears continue to struggle despite drafting Justin Fields two years ago. While Fields has shown some improvement, it still wasn’t good enough to get the Bears to the playoffs this past year.
Montgomery continued to say how thrilled he was to be part of the Lions and how optimistic he was about this upcoming season.
