The Las Vegas Raiders made a change at the quarterback position midway through this season, moving from veteran Jimmy Garoppolo to rookie Aidan O’Connell. And as he looks to help keep the Raiders in playoff contention, it’s clear that he has the full support of star wide receiver Davante Adams.
During a press conference this week, Davante Adams opened up about how he and the rest of the team are supporting the rookie quarterback as he steps into the starting quarterback role.
“I just want to see him play to the best of his abilities, and just trust himself, and do what he’s been doing, and do the things that [he was] when he had a real great rhythm in the preseason,” Adams said in his Wednesday press conference. “Just kind of remind himself of what he can do and just keep building.
“It’s no pressure from any of us and we love him and we’re supporting him through every step of the way. I just want him to be him and be comfortable out there.”
O’Connell was able to lead the team to victory in each of his first two starts, but the Raiders have since lost back-to-back games against the Miami Dolphins and the Kansas City Chiefs. If they want to keep their postseason hopes alive, they’ll need him to bounce back in a big way down the stretch.
