The Brooklyn Nets announced last week that they were suspending Kyrie Irving for five games for making antisemitic comments and refusing to earnestly apologize and accept responsibility for the fallout.
Irving has since apologized, but it was too little too late, though a lot of people are comparing Irving’s situation to that of Brett Favre. Favre has been accused of stealing funds from the poor in Mississippi but has yet to be arrested. A lot of people think that Irving is being treated more unfairly than Favre, including Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay.
“Brett Favre still big chilling huh!! Guess we forgot what he did,” wrote Slay.
Slay then tweeted again, saying “Brett Favre didn’t issue an apology or nothing.”
Slay is not the only pro athlete who has expressed feelings that Irving is being treated unfairly. Former Baltimore Ravens star and NFL Hall of Famer Ed Reed stands with Irving too, but he later took his tweet down.
“These boys making business decisions, not worried about the people! I STAND WITH #KyrieIrving we are Harmed everyday! Stop acting as if BLACK folk are not treated worst than any. All the attn (apologies) PROVES it,” tweeted Reed.

While Irving serves his suspension, neither the state of Mississippi nor the federal government hasn’t filed any charges against Favre yet.
