With the unanimous approval of the Washington Commanders sale, we can officially say that the Daniel Snyder era is over. And you’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone shedding tears about it — unless, of course, we count tears of joy.
Snyder was a powder keg of controversy throughout his tenure running the team. But he’s by no means the only controversial owner in the history of the NFL. Heck, he was far from the only controversial owner of the current group. So, how bad was he? A summation of his time running the team shows that Snyder was as bad as it gets.
When Snyder bought the team, its most recent Super Bowl championship, Super Bowl appearance or even NFC Championship was in the 1991 season. That’s still the case. And it’s not just the lack of championships.
Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post detailed Snyder’s reign as the owner. And while he certainly got a massive return on his investment (even with his last fine), you’ll have a hard time finding any other positives.
Jhabvala later clarified that she meant first-team All-Pros. So, including the likes of Trent Williams, Champ Bailey, Clinton Portis and the late Sean Taylor will make the All-Pro count look higher.
But it’s still a dreary picture. And the NFL world reacted to the dreary picture, noting the downfall of what was once one of the league’s top franchises.
While nothing is impossible, it is difficult to imagine that Josh Harris’ time running the franchise can realistically be any worse.
