Dallas Cowboys second-year defensive end Sam Williams is in trouble with the law again.
Williams was arrested Sunday on charges of possession of a controlled substance and unlawful carrying of a weapon, Frisco Police told Todd Archer of ESPN.
According to Archer, the Cowboys arrived back in Texas “early Sunday morning” after a preseason contest against the Seattle Seahawks. Though Williams got arrested later that day, he participated in Tuesday’s practice at the team facility.
Williams is subject to a fine or suspension for the incident according to the NFL’s personal conduct policy. The Cowboys know about the incident but did not comment, according to Archer.
Police say the controlled substance charge is for another substance that isn’t marijuana and is considered a “state jail felony” in Texas. The unlawful carrying of a weapon is a Class A misdemeanor.
This isn’t Williams’ first run-in with the law in his professional career. After totaling his car near the team facility, he was cited a month later for misdemeanor reckless driving for driving close to 100 mph in a 55 mph zone and weaving through traffic, according to Archer.
Williams missed a game while in the concussion protocol following the accident that left him and another driver without serious injuries. A second-round pick, he finished fifth in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.
