The Dallas Cowboys hit the road to face Christian McCaffrey and the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs on Sunday.
Oddsmakers currently list the 49ers as four-point home favorites entering the contest. That was news to Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, who learned how Vegas viewed the contest on Friday while previewing the game with local Dallas media.
“Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy on 105.3 The Fan on Dallas being an underdog vs. the 49ers on Sunday: ‘We’re the underdog? By 4? Wow. OK. Divisional round, so, no, we’re very confident. I think there’s an underdog in all of us as you thrive and strive through this business,'” wrote Cowboys beat reporter Jon Machota.
The Cowboys destroyed Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the reigning Super Bowl champions, in the Wild Card round.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott finished that game by completing 25 of his 33 passes for 305 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions. Running back Tony Pollard added 77 yards on the ground on 15 carries.
The 49ers finished the 2022-23 campaign with a 13-4 record, good enough for first place in the NFC West. As such, the 49ers enjoyed an off week in last week’s opening round of the 2023 NFL playoffs.
