The Dallas Cowboys made a big move for a proven NFL receiver on Sunday.
Ian Rapoport, NFL.com’s league insider, broke the news:
“Sources: The Texans are trading WR Brandin Cooks to the Cowboys for a 5th this year and 6th next year. A big-play threat for Dallas,” Rapoport wrote in the tweet.
Cooks finished with 57 receptions for 699 yards and three touchdowns last season with the Houston Texans.
The NFL world was quick to react to the news:
“This was always going to happen when we’re trying to watch Tyrone – Monaghan wasn’t it,” Michael McQuaid wrote.
Had a deal in place for a 3rd last year. Fell apart when Texans wanted a 2nd. Cowboys now get Cooks for even cheaper than they initially wanted. This is the type of trade the Cowboys sought that we discussed on 1053 The Fan. Fantastic move for the Cowboys,” Bobby Belt wrote.
“Despite seeming like a good option, sources indicated last week they didn’t believe the Browns were in the hunt for Cooks. That remained the case through the week, I’m told,” Camryn Justice wrote.
“Great deal for the Cowboys. But now they have to pay the bill. Brandin Cooks is set to make $18.5M in 2023 and, if the Cowboys keep him, the WR will make $16.5M in 2024. That’s why the trade costs are so reasonable,” wrote Henry McKenna.
“Seems like a good deal for the Cowboys. Cooks is still a solid WR – will be 30 years old this season. they’ll pay $12 million for this year and then can get out of it next year. Dak’s going to be 30. Mike McCarthy needs to win to keep his job. Cowboys are in win-now mode,” wrote Lori Robinson.
