Earlier this week, Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones made it clear that head coach Mike McCarthy will not be fired even if his team loses Monday night’s Wild Card round game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott thinks it’s comical that was even a question in the first place.
During a press conference this week, Dak Prescott called all the questions about McCarthy’s job security “comical, in a sense,” noting that the expectations are extremely high when you’re with the Dallas Cowboys.
“Back-to-back 12 wins in y’all tell me how long and we’re talking about a guy’s job in jeopardy?” Prescott said, according to Jori Epstein of Yahoo! Sports. “That just shows you when you play for this organization what comes with it.”
Prescott went on to explain that those sorts of conversations and narratives can become distracting to a team, so it’s important that the team become isolated from things like that.
“That’s why it’s important to create these walls around us, create this safe place in our locker room,” Prescott said. Understanding what matters is the men that go out there and get in between the lines and put the work in throughout the week for us to go out and win.”
McCarthy may not be coaching for his future on Monday night, but the Cowboys are still looking for a huge win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which would be the franchise’s first win over Tom Brady in history.
