The Dallas Cowboys learned on Monday that they’d be without a key contributor for the rest of the season.

Offensive lineman Terence Steele is done for the season. The Cowboys‘ worst fears were realized about Steele after he was injured in Sunday’s contest against the Houston Texans. An MRI revealed that undrafted former Texas Tech standout tore his ACL. So the Cowboys’ playoff push will come without one of their best players in the trenches.

Jeremy Fowler tweeted, “Cowboys RT Terence Steele tore his ACL, per source. MRI revealed the damage.”

Steele is a key piece to the puzzle in Dallas as the Cowboys’ line has impressed in 2022. The team is 2nd in the NFL in Sacked%, as they’ve yielded a mark of 3.74 percent. Tampa Bay is the only team with a better mark this season at 3.01 percent so the team is in elite company.

Dallas is also in the Top 10 in yards per rush attempt at 4.7 and the line and the players on that line are a huge reason why.

Ian Rapoport reported that it was considered a “normal tear” and that Steele “should be good to go” by the start of next season.

The news buzzed around the league on Monday and especially so in Dallas. Those around the team reacted to the news of Steele’s injury while the morning turned t aft.

Cowboys reporter Jon Machota wrote on the team’s plans without Steele. He tweeted, “Cowboys right tackle Terence Steele reportedly has a torn ACL. The Cowboys’ plan is to turn to Jason Peters and Josh Ball to fill that starting spot.”

Elsewhere, Blogging the Boys EIC RJ Ochoa tweeted a surprising fact. He said, “The Terence Steele news means that the Dallas Cowboys will never at any point this season have the offensive line that they envisioned when they put this team together. A constant game of adapting.”

Additionally, Dallas sports radio host Kevin Gray lamented the loss of Steele. He called it a “massive blow” and remarked on Steele’s “tremendous year” with the team.

Finally, Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News believed the loss was “significant” and called Steele a cornerstone of the offense.

Best of luck to Steele in his recovery.
