Zack Martin is getting a big pay raise.

The Dallas Cowboys are getting their All-Pro guard into training camp.

Whether this is a win-win situation depends on how team owner Jerry Jones feels when he opens his checkbook to pay other players.

Martin and the Cowboys reportedly reached an agreement on a reworked contract Monday. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the deal is worth “north” of $18 million each of the next two years, and it is fully guaranteed. He had been slated to make $13.5 million in 2023 and $14 million in 2024.

Jones told the Cowboys website in late July there was “no resolution” in sight to Martin’s contract holdout. He explained that the team couldn’t budge on the contract, and that Dallas needed the money to pay defensive star Micah Parsons and other “players that we got to pay in the future”.

So Martin’s pay raise will eat into that available salary cap for the next two years. Yet the value the six-time first-team All-Pro brings to the Cowboys offense is undeniable.

Football fans generally think the Cowboys made a wise decision.
