The Washington Commanders caused a stir in the NFL world on Thursday. While everyone has descended on Indianapolis for the NFL Scouting Combine, some interesting news emerged out of the Commanders’ camp.
It turns out that new owner Josh Harris is taking a very hands-on approach. ESPN reported on Thursday that Harris, the team’s new owner, has sat in on meetings with top prospects at the Combine.
NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the news of Harris’ presence in these meetings early Thursday morning. Schefter broke the news on X, the popular website formerly known as Twitter.
“Attending his first combine as the Washington Commanders owner, Josh Harris has sat in and taken part of each of the six interviews that the team has conducted with the top quarterback prospects in this draft,” Schefter said in the post.
It’s somewhat out of the ordinary for an owner to partake in these meetings. So that’s what makes it so newsworthy! Schefter noted that owners don’t usually sit in on these meetings with prospects. However, Harris does have a different responsibility and he seems aware of it.
Harris replaced the disgraced Daniel Snyder as the team’s owner last year. Snyder presided over the worst era in Washington football history. Mostly, it was due to Snyder’s own misdeeds, terrible signings, and otherwise awful ownership. The once proud franchise is one of the worst now. Not just in the NFL either, but in North American sports.
So it’s safe to say that Harris is trying to make a good impression and leave a completely different mark.
The NFL world reacted to the news.
