It has already been announced that Washington Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz will not start on Sunday after breaking his ring finger last week. Washington has now made a big decision on Wentz that ensures he will be out for quite some time.
The Commanders officially placed Wentz on injured reserve on Saturday, meaning that he will be out at least four games for Washington.
Veteran quarterback Taylor Heinicke will start on Sunday in his absence, with rookie Sam Howell serving as the team’s No.2 option at the quarterback position.
Wentz will miss out on two revenge games against both the Philadelphia Eagles and the Indianapolis Colts in his absence, which he was surely looking forward to.
Washington is currently sitting at just 2-4 on the season thus far in an ultra-competitive NFC East division, and this injury could be detrimental to their chances of turning their season around. Wentz has been inconsistent this season but has had some big games, throwing for over 300 yards in three of the team’s six games thus far.
Heinicke has plenty of experience playing in Washington, starting in 15 games last season for the Commanders.
While he has shown to be competent, he is far from exceptional, and the Commenders could look to Sam Howell if their season goes sideways down the stretch of this year.
