There was some good news and bad news for those who watched Thursday night’s game between the Washington Commanders and Chicago Bears. The good news? While Week 5’s Thursday Night Football game between the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos featured no touchdowns, two were scored between Washington and Chicago. The bad news? Somehow, the Commanders and Bears combined for fewer points than the Colts and Broncos did.
While Indianapolis and Denver combined for no touchdowns in a game that had fans leaving before overtime, the seven combined field goals led to a 12-9 final score. Conversely, Washington and Chicago managed little else outside of the touchdowns, as the Commanders defeated the Bears 12-7.
Chicago narrowly missed scoring the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds. Justin Fields and Darnell Mooney appeared to connect on a pass in the end zone but by the time Mooney secured the ball, his momentum had taken him out just short of the goal line.
Washington’s lone touchdown came in the fourth quarter and was set up by Chicago return man, Velus Jones Jr., misplaying a punt.
Viewers had a lot to say about another Thursday night game that, to put it mildly, left a lot to be desired.

There’s no doubt that these have not been the best-played games. That said, there is one saving grace. While the games have been poorly played, they’ve at least been close. Imagine how much worse Thursday’s game would have been if the Bears didn’t have a chance to win it in the final seconds.
