It’s currently Senior Bowl week in Mobile, AL, giving some of the nation’s top football prospects a prime opportunity to showcase their skills ahead of April’s 2023 NFL Draft.
One prospect taking great advantage of that chance is North Dakota State offensive lineman Cody Mauch.
Mauch has caught the attention of draft evaluators at Senior Bowl practices, putting together impressive work in drills and showing off his versatility on the offensive line.
He’s also shown off a great personality and been very entertaining in interviews.
During a media session on Wednesday, Mauch was asked how he gained weight to go from a walk-on tight end at North Dakota State to a starting offensive tackle for the Bison. He gained 85 pounds in college.
Mauch said that he “didn’t play to gain all the weight,” but he was “just kinda hungry.” He fell in love with the unlimited dining plan at North Dakota State, eating “26, 27 meals a week,” and particularly enjoyed the dining center’s chicken lasagna and stromboli.
Via Thor Nystrom of FantasyPros and Sara Larson of SB Nation:
At the Senior Bowl weigh-in, Mauch checked in at 6″5, 305 pounds. Most draft evaluators have pegged him as a Day 2 prospect, but perhaps he can sneak into the first round of the draft if he keeps impressing. And he’ll quickly become a fan favorite wherever he lands.
