The Cleveland Browns opened training camp with some major question marks surrounding the quarterback position. Last year’s opening week starter, Deshaun Watson, is still recovering from the Achilles injury that ended his season last year.
The Browns responded by adding five quarterbacks this offseason. After signing Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, Cleveland drafted Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. Then, injuries forced the Browns hadn adn they sign former Pro Bowler Tyler Huntley.
After Huntley was released, Cleveland looked primed to open the season with four quarterbacks on its active roster. However, a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders has reduced that number to three, according to one prominent NFL insider.
“Trade: Browns are sending QB Kenny Pickett to the Las Vegas Raiders, per sources. Raiders needed another backup for Geno Smith with QB Aidan O’Connell fracturing his wrist in the preseason finale and being expected to miss 6-8 weeks,” EPSN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday.
Schefter followed up with some context on what the move means for Pickett’s journey in the NFL.
“Kenny Pickett has now been traded from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia, from Philadelphia to Cleveland, and from Cleveland to Las Vegas.”
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“At this rate, his frequent flyer miles might outpace his passing yards,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Kenny Pickett’s been on a wild ride—traded from Pittsburgh to Philly, then Cleveland, now Vegas! Can he find a home and shine with the Raiders?” another fan wondered.
It’ll be interesting to see how Pickett’s career unfolds from here.
